As an Indian consumer, we should support India by giving proper value to the artisans of India. But still, some of them are addicted to fast fashion because of the accessibility and affordability to the consumer. I think designers and brands need to create an alternative to fast fashion so that Consumers can switch from fast fashion. Some of the startup and luxury brand are already working on it.

I don’t think in India anybody throws a worn cloth into a dustbin. That’s what we are! we reuse, we recreate. It’s our Indian art and culture to upcycle/recycle discarded clothes. Different types of art, making old clothes into rugs, blankets, etc. using techniques like a quilt, patchwork, braided, and many more.

We should save our art and Karigar’s of India, who already has different skills in their family for centuries. Globally, India generates less waste of worn clothes in landfills.

Even though clothing is recyclable, about 75 to 85 per cent of textile waste ends up in landfills or is incinerated instead of being reused/recycled, thereby polluting the environment. According to the article, “textile waste poses a threat”. Sometimes, even new unused garments see the face of the landfills.

Organic Clothes such as cotton are eco-friendlier compare to the synthetic clothes i.e. polyester, rayon. Synthetic materials take 100 of years to decompose.

Sustainability is not just a word now. We really need to priorities it. Awareness has been created now and as a consumer we must act on it. “Don’t buy much but be sure what you buy” (Christian Dior)

Before you step out to go shopping, have a look at your closet. Contemplate if you like to recycle your old clothes. I have it wit my wardrobe.

Rather than discarding your clothes, you could:

· DONATE IT: Tips before donating:

wash it and repair it.

· Brands like H&M, Marks and spencer and many more are taking old clothes for recycling.

· DIY’s at home

· Give to the Thrift shop

· Give it to the designers who could give it a new life and make all new product out of it. you could also follow bloggers tips on DIY. Do have a look at my DIY section.
